Mhondoro Game Lodge
Situated in the World Heritage Waterberg Biosphere, Mhondoro is a world-class lodge set on the plains of the Big Five Welgevonden Reserve home to the world's largest privately owned population of white rhino.
Accommodating just ten guests, the lodge ensures the height of personal attention and five-star service. Each chalet uses slate, wood and natural hues to create a subtle sense of natural elegance. Large double sliding doors exit onto a private viewing sundeck where guests watch Africa pass them by. For the pinnacle in bush luxury, the executive double unit boasts two en-suite bedrooms, a sitting room, and a jacuzzi.
Crafted by the designers of the Singita lodges, the main lodge houses a stylish living area, dining room, viewing deck, and plunge pool, while the gym and steam room look out onto the plains.
Mhondoro's African fusion cuisine can either be served in the dining room or, for a romantic start to your day, the lodge's superb chefs will put together a bush breakfast to be enjoyed in the wild.
Mhondoro Lodge, designed to reflect the beauty of its setting, is an oasis of luxury amidst the wild terrain of the Limpopo Province. Mhondoro is home to the big five in an exclusive malaria free game reserve.
The lodge can accommodate 10 people in 3 individual chalets, and one luxury double unit. Each unit has a private viewing deck, a full luxurious bath, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The luxury double unit boasts 2 bedrooms (both with en-suite bathrooms), a central sitting room and a jacuzzi. The units stretch 200 meters along a ridge with spectacular views over a game-rich plain and private waterhole to the Waterburg Mountains in the distance.
The main lodge houses an outstanding living area, dining room, full-scale kitchen and an expansive Teak deck that includes a small plunge pool. The gymnasium and steam room below the deck looks out on to the plains. A beautifully decorated unit that serves as an entertainment and conference area is situated a few meters from the main lodge. The lodge was designed and decorated by well-known South African designers whose work includes Singita and Tswalu lodges.
Mhondoro is renowned for its outstanding cuisine which can be described as African Fusion. The lodge boasts 3 qualified and acclaimed chef's who strive to please even the fussiest of pallets - succeeding every time.
From Johannesburg take North on N1 highway, past Pretoria East towards Polokwane (Old Pietersburg name). After Carousel Toll Plaza, keep left lane and at Kranskop Toll Plaza, keep left and come off the N1 highway towards Modimolle (Old Nylstroom name) and head west through Modimolle town (Old Nylstroom) and Vaalwater. Do not deviate from the main road when passing through either Modimolle or Vaalwater town. After Vaalwater town, the drive takes 26km to Welgevonden main gate, ignore Welgevonden first sign post which says East Gate to your left and proceed towards second sign post which says Welgevonden main gate 500m and turn left into Main gate entrance. The distances between Modimolle and Vaalwater is approximately 86km and from Johannesburg to Welgevonden Main gate is 270km and should take about 2½ -3hours drive.
